Like your turtle.
Do they need a basking area?

Nice looking African Cichlids, I had them for a while but the call of the reef tank was to strong, had to go back to salt.

Re: 60G Freshwater
the turtle and the lobster WILL eat your fish if they get the chance, its just a matter of time.
i had a crayfish in my 55, it kept eating my small babies... so i moved it to my 240 with my oscars, and at night it would attack my 15 inch male oscar and nip its fins... kept doin it till one day the oscar ate it.
as for the turtle, do you have a dry basking area on your tank for it with a UVA/UVB basking light? if you dont, it will die. they get soft shell disease, and the shell will get really soft and start to rot if you dont. its bc they use the UV light to make vitamin D, and WILL die without it. not to mention the fact they cannot digest their food properly if they arent allowed to bask... they really need that basking spot to thermoregulate their body temperature!
also in a year, almost all of those fish will fit neatly inside of that jack dempsey.

First of all, my turtle and lobster have yet to eat anything other than what I feed them, and I have had them both for more than 2 years. And yes, he also has a basking area with proper lighting, what do you think I am? A turtle killer?
I do plenty research before I just put a bunch of fish in my tank forums, books, people, ect.
And as far as the Jack Dempsey goes, he is the last of the big fish that I am trying to rehome. He has yet to ever show aggression to any of the fish in the tank, including the littlest ones.
Before you go rambling on about how things may work in your tank or second hand information on what you have been told, always remember that there isn't one tank that is the same or operates the same. I am still a newbie at the fish hobby, so I appreciate your advice or knowledge, but don't take me wrong that I took your post a little bit short or kind of pushy.

Re: 60G Freshwater
ive kept and bred most of those fish at one point or another, i had a whole tank of mbuna i used to breed solely for no other purpose than to feed them to my oscars in my 240gallon tank. i got a thousand pics of my jacks and cichlids spawning. i think i read you just got the tank cycled and hadnt added some of your plants... so i assumed it was a new setup since you said it was the only tank you had right?? just trying to share information, next time ill just keep my mouth shut, you obviously know better than i.

I wasn't trying to jump your ship. Just letting you know that I'm not one to do something without researching it or none the less, looking into it.
What I was saying was all of the things I have witnessed in my tank. Not saying that in other cases it may not be true..
I found my turtle when he was no bigger than the size of a quarter. He has adapted to being in a aquarium with multiple fish and critters, so I am sure that if he was going to be a predator like he is meant to be than it would have happened by now. As far as bigger fish go with other fish that are significantly smaller in size, it's not always true. I had three ginormous (8''-10'') Tiger Oscars in the tank with a handful of fish that were much smaller than that, and everything was kosher.
I appreciate the outlook and advice, but I had clearly stated at the end of my last reply... your post just came off as kinda "smartassy".
My apologies.

Re: 60G Freshwater
dont confuse factual and to the point with negativity. there is truth in all that i said. i wouldnt waste my time to be negative to a stranger on a fish forum. ive learned tons from people ive met on these things, theres several members here that have met me in person. its a shame how poorly tone translates thru text.
what i meant to say was nice tank keep up the good work.
