Sand bass are close to spawning.

Post by Siberman on Thu 14 Apr 2011, 7:09 pm

Just FYI : Sand bass are shallow on Bob Sandlin ( 3-6 feet) and the females are reallllllly fat. Caught a dozen Sunday morning in about 1 hour on slabs and Rattletraps. Wink

Is that the same as a White Bass? We tear those up on Caddo in Feb/March but after that they sort of disappear. Maybe they head to Bob Sandlin? Very Happy

Yup , same fish. They probably spawn sooner on Caddo , then they go back deep. They're even later (May) in Sulpher. They're not my favorite eatin' fish but I love the fight. Wink

I love em. I use suspending crank baits and toss them around the trees. I like them to eat too. Not as good as a crappie but it's good. I just have to make sure I trim all that red meat off the fillets. I love how they fight and will chase the bait right up to the boat.
