yellow stringy substance

Post by TWBriz on Sun 06 Mar 2011, 11:02 pm

I recieved some live rock from someone in the dallas area and after a few weeks a small yellow stringy clump appeared. It spread out in a pattern with a main centerpoint with several strands coming off, and then started multiplying. It never grew in thickness, only in length. It looks like sombody took a spindle of yellow string and threw it all over in the aquarium. I've searched the internet and asked few people and no one knows what it is. Does anybody here have any ideas as to what it could be?

I love a google challenge
Is this any good?

They talk about something similar to that which you described.

Sounds like Terebellidae, or more commonly called spaghetti worms. Good bottom feeder.

I've never seen the body on the ones I have in my tank either. It is usually buried in the sand or the rock. I think all of mine have migrated to the sand.

Here's the link for how to post pics:

Yep, definitely a spaghetti worm. Can't say I've ever seen the body of any of mine though so I can't answer your question.

Nah, they're good for the tank, eat the bad stuff and left over food.

Here's a link to FAR more information than you probably really want. Taken from the wetwebmedia site.
