I think i will order the pump Donnie has and try this 40 out in the mean time and have the 80 gph for back up or replacement. It would be almost 20x turn over rate

Thinking about running live rock rubble and cheto in the overflow with the live rock rubble on bottom and maybe a piece or two in with the pump do yall think this will keep the cheto out of the pump or do i need to install egg crate

Re: Building a 5.5gal with false wall for nano contest
i wouldn't run anything in the pump chamber, maybe have egg crate to use as a media rack for chemi pure or some carbon. I would make a small fuge in the first chamber.

Only problem with via aqua 80 is trying to plumb it, it has a 1/4" output, making it hard to find anything to fit, You probably should stick with a pump with 1/2" output.

Re: Building a 5.5gal with false wall for nano contest
the 1/2" is what i plumbed for i will order something else
i think i will do about four pieces of live rock then egg crate and a ball of cheto the center wall is an inch low and a inch off bottom might have to put something up top if the water wont go though the bottom now that i am thinking i need a bigger pump

You guys should switch. Donnie's pump will be working harder turned down to 50% all the time. Would work out best for both of you.
I've got 13x going through my main return. With powerheads I'm well over 20x.

I don't see it on that one but rio usually comes with a flow regulator don't they, did you get one on the 40 gph?

Re: Building a 5.5gal with false wall for nano contest
All of the rio's I ordered (or should I say both) came with a ball valve. But they say restricting their flow causes more wear on them. Plus.. when I restricted mine it gave me micro bubbles.

Re: Building a 5.5gal with false wall for nano contest
Ok guys, I remembered why I chose the via aqua 80, it only draws 2.7 watts as compared to the rio 50 at 69 gph, the rio draws 5.3 watts, not a lot of difference except in heat tranfered to the water, the rio will run a little hotter. Also the via aqua has a 1/2" output adapter with it, guess I just need to order the 1/2" lockline connector.
If any of you want the via aqua, here is a link. it cost like $6.79.

Considering you're already running at 82 degrees it sounds like that was a good choice!

Do you have a link to that 1/2 lock line on ebay? all I can find is the one from China for $3.50, it takes three weeks to get here from China, shoot me the link for the $5.50 one.
