Tube Anemone - Shallow sand bed solution

I used epoxy putty to attach some rocks to the end of the PVC in order to hide the pipe. I simply slid the pipe down into the rock work and all you see is the rock on the end of the PVC. It blends nicely with the rest of the rock work. Pics of the tube anemone and new home to come soon.

That will work for sure. Be careful with how much flow actually hits the nem, they do not tolerate high currents very well and will stay mostly closed. What color are you getting and where did you get it ? Be careful of how much you spend on one, there is a LFS here in ft. worth that has one identical to mine and they are asking $1,000 for it. I got mine for $15 they are around $40 through Divers Den . Good luck and I look forward to seeing it, I am about to start an all NPS tank so maybe it will bring some of thses FW peeps to the dark side. haha

He got it from me. I got it from Divers Den. It seemed to perk up more in higher flow, not direct flow but high random flow. Under lower flow the tentacles would just lay limp on the sand and it looked droopy. When I added another power head it perked up and looked fully extended. My plan was to do a sandbed full of them in my mantis tank but since my mantis died I decided not to go on with my plan. I am a huge fan of these now and I think all the claims about how deadly they can be are over exaggerated. I think the best thing about them is that they don't wander around like other anemones do so you don't have to anemone proof your tank. That's going to look awesome BigBlue!

WOW mine acts the exact opposite in high flow. I moved it into a cave and it extended more, maybe i moved it from tooo much flow to the right amount of flow. Who knows.

Who knows what these things want! lol. Yours does look a little different than mine...I mean BigBlue's...maybe that has something to do with it. I will say this, those things are not easy to handle. It's like trying to pick up a wet napkin out of water.

yeah, they are quite delicate. I like to watch mine eat, I fed mine 2 pieces of krill last night and i thought it was gonna drag me in too. with the flow issue that just proves that every piece of coral or every fish have different needs. just because a book says one thing, doesnt mean that is for every one that exisists. good lesson for noobs

He looks good this morning! I got the tube in a moderate flow area. The tentacles were fully extended and flowing with the water. I like the fact that he does not move. I purposely built a small section of deep sand bed in my SPS display. A tube anemone would be perfect for that area. My carpet is an SPS killer. It puts off a toxin that kills most monti and milli SPS corals. I wonder if the tube anemone does anything like that. As far as I know, the carpet is the only anemone that does that.
