Silver Hydnophora

Post by ritter678 on Sun 30 Jan 2011, 12:58 pm

I have a Hydnophora rigida for trade. This is an sps coral and needs an sps tank. It is silver colored and bushy with a blue green color underneath. The frag on the left is the one I would like to trade. I'm looking for other sps frags.

Ok, I need to bring you that torch coral one day too. I'll bring the frag then.

What is your experience with this aggressive SPS? There is very little information to be found about them. Seems they have a reputation for being aggressive toward anything within 5" though.

Not much experience for me with it. I have had it for a while and it hasn't caused any problems yet. I keep moving it here and there so I haven't really given it a chance to take off yet but it is growing ok for me considering. I got a large piece of it in a trade with another member on ETRs a while back and ended up fragging it into 3 pieces. Donnie has one of them and his has grown a lot since he got it from me so he may know more about it. I have not seen any sweepers on any of mine yet. I have heard it is aggressive. The guy I got it from got it from someone he knows that has a large colony of it but I don't know who that is. It is a beautiful piece though, I love the silver/blue/green colors and the bushy polyps on it. It really glows under the actinics. I would say it is a very hardy piece too.

Mine has grown like crazy and I have never seen any aggression or any sweeper tentacles. There are some tube corals right behind this piece that will touch it with their tentacles and it does not react so I don't think is aggressive. it is the fuzzy coral on top left in this picture.

I like the look of it. I like the millipora sp. corals because of their long polyp extension.

Looking good Donnie!!
